Gegard Mousasi explains why he was vaccinated: “I believe in science”

Bellator middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi explained why he was vaccinated against COVID-19, saying that he “believes in science.”

Mousasi returns to the cage this Friday night at Bellator 264 when he faces off against fellow UFC veteran John Salter for Mousasi’s middleweight title. Ahead of his fight, Mousasi spoke to MMA reporter James Lynch and was asked about the COVID-19 situation in “The Dream Catcher’s” native Netherlands. The PRIDE vet admitted that the situation in his home country has been up-and-down, and that’s why he decided to get vaccinated against the COVID-19 vaccine.

“(COVID-19) went up and then people got vaccinated, it went down, then suddenly it came with the Delta variant, and then they said it went up and going and now it’s coming down again. No, we don’t have to wear a mask or anything. The funny thing is, the Delta variant was first in England then it was in America then it was in Holland. But if there’s Delta variant in Holland then it’s everywhere. The U.K. is next to Holland. I don’t know what they’re doing. The government does whatever the government wants. I don’t know who to trust,” Gegard Mousasi said.

“Yeah, I got vaccinated. It’s not like you have any choice, eh? But I would have got vaccinated anyway. I believe in science, it’s not like I don’t believe in it.  They’re trying to ban people to come to the United States to get vaccinated, so it’s not like you have an option.”

Mousasi (47-7-2) is coming off of back-to-back wins over Douglas Lima and Lyoto Machida and overall he has won 10 of his last 11 fights. Some of Mousasi’s notable career wins include Uriah Hall, Chris Weidman, Rory MacDonald, Mark Hunt, Thiago Santos, Dan Henderson Vitor Belfort, and many more. He will look to add to his legacy this Friday when it looks to make another title defense against Salter.
