IMMAF Launches Asian MMA Federation, Expanding Global Reach
IMMAF, the leading sanctioning body working towards getting mixed martial arts into the Olympic Games, has launched it’s Asian MMA federation (AMMAF) and includes five regions. It was endorsed unanimously by the Asian members and will roll out globally to other continental regions according to IMMAF.
The Bahrain MMA Federation President Mohammad Qambar was appointed as the AMMAF President.
IMMAF: Growing the sport in the Olympic Spirit
IMMAF creating an Asian Federation is growing mixed martial arts in the vein of the Olympic Spirit, a major part of being accepted in the Olympic Games. This structure gets IMMAF a step closer.
Mohamma Qambar is honored to be the leader of AMMAF and looks to grow the sport in Asia and worldwide alongside IMMAF.
“I would like to thank IMMAF President Kerrith Brown and IMMAF’s Asian members for placing their trust in me. I thank H.H Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad for his vision that has set Bahrain among the leading countries in the world for MMA, fostering trust from other Asian nations for Bahrain to lead on establishing IMMAF Asia to further the development of MMA globally.”
IMMAF Director of Asia, Wissam Abi Nader, also sees much potential in Asia and believes that the creation of the federation is a step forward as well. The growth of an Asian amateur federation is something Nader has always felt was necessary and now it will only bolster the sport going forward.
“I believe that Asia has the greatest potential, as is well proven by the medals results of our Asian nations and their energetic development of the sport regionally and globally. Creation of an Asian federation by our members was inevitable at some point, and I believe by uniting they can take the sport to another level in Asia and the world. This is a historical event as a first MMA federation for Asia has been formed under the only legitimate international governing body in the world for MMA.”
Finally, IMMAF President Kerrith Brown, says that this is just the culmination of 10 years of hard work. With MMA now WADA recognized, the path to the Olympics is that much clearer.
“IMMAF’s Asian members have contributed greatly to the development of IMMAF and MMA globally over the past 10 years. This has helped IMMAF establish itself as the only legitimate international governing body for MMA that is recognised by WADA, with half its members recognised by their National Olympic Committee or Sport Authority and its athlete development pathway recognised by the world’s top tier promoters. Through mutual collaboration and leveraging of resources, our Asian federations will undoubtedly accelerate continued growth across the continent.”
