Jackie Buntan on going 3-0 in ONE Championship at ONE: Empower

Jackie Buntan defeated Daniela Lopez via unanimous decision at ONE: Empower. This September 3rd Muay Thai bout emanated from Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Buntan put on a comprehensive performance from the opening bell to the very end. The winning streak she has accrued so far puts Buntan in a favorable position to contend for the inaugural ONE Women’s Strawweight Muay Thai world title.

The Boxing Works product was thorough in seemingly all areas with situational edges in speed, power, volume, etc. Also showcasing an effectiveness landing on the backfoot but also encroaching forward to apply that purposeful pressure.

Jackie Buntan rocked Daniela Lopez but Lopez was able to hang on until the final horn. Despite the grit from Lopez, Buntan took the clear-cut unanimous decision to improve to 3-0 under the ONE Championship banner.

I spoke with Buntan at the post-fight presser and got some of her insights.

Jackie Buntan

Being on some huge shows (ONE: Empower and ONE on TNT IV) where she showed out

“Yeah, I mean it’s amazing. Especially being on this card, the Empower card. The first all-female card ever. It’s truly an honor to be on these big cards. At first, it’s a little daunting with the pressure. But I just tell myself that there’s a reason why they selected me to be on these cards. That just adds on to my confidence as a fighter.”

Buntan mentioning how she didn’t get the KO but still being proud of the overall performance

“No, I’m super proud about that performance. Just because everything we’ve worked for this camp, it came out. Even if that means that I didn’t knock her out, that’s fine. Because everything I worked throughout this camera came out in that fight. That’s what I love about training and fighting is always learning. Trying new things and when it comes out on the night that it matters, it’s just an amazing feeling.”
