Joe Pyfer climbs to 3-0 inside the octagon with stoppage win over Abdul Razak Alhassan at UFC Vegas 80

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to us tonight, October 7, 2023, for UFC Vegas 80, going down live from the UFC Apex in Enterprise, Nevada.

Headlining the event is a lightweight affair between no. 10 ranked Grant Dawson (20-1-1) and longtime 155 lb staple Bobby Green (30-14-1).

Co-headlining the event was a welterweight bout showcasing a pair of knockout artists in Joe Pyfer (12-2) and Abdul Razak Alhassan (12-6). Of Pyfer’s 11 professional wins coming in, eight came via knockout, while all 12 of Alhassan’s previous victories came via knockout.

Pyfer came into the bout having won his first two promotional outings, while Alhassan had gone 2-1 over his latest three appearances.

Official Result: Joe Pyfer def. Abdul Razak Alhassan via submission (arm-triangle choke) at 2:05 of round two

Pyfer takes Alhassan down right once the bout begins, Alhassan immediately returning to his feet. Pyfer locks him in a standing arm-triangle choke and attempts a trip takedown but is unsuccessful and they’re back to range.

Alhassan lands a good right hand, but is again taken down. He locks Pyfer into a guillotine choke and uses it to return to his feet. From here it was all Pyfer controlling the center and landing bombs with Alhassan acting timidly without offense.

Alhassan starts to find success in round two with his right calf kick, which certainly appeared to be effecting Pyfer. It was the right adjustment to make and it was working. However, Pyfer gets in close and slams Alhassan down to the mat after eating a number of them, and quickly sinks in the arm-triangle choke for the second round finish.

Joe Pyfer climbs to 3-0 inside the octagon tonight at UFC Vegas 80, all three wins coming via finish.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
