Katlyn Chookagian gets UFC flyweight title shot against Shevchenko

New Jersey’s Katlyn Chookagian will compete in her first UFC title bout when she meets current flyweight queen Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 247 in Houston, Texas.  The February 8 fight was first confirmed by Nolan King of MMA Junkie.  The UFC has not yet officially announced the contest.

The 30-year old “Blonde Fighter” Chookagian is riding a two-fight win streak after dropping a split decision to former title challenger Jessica Eye in December.  Chookagian will enter the contest following unanimous decision wins over Jennifer Maia and Joanne Calderwood.  With a professional record of 13-2, Chookagian’s only other loss comes by way of another split decision from another former title challenger in Liz Carmouche.

The champion, Shevchenko won the vacated 125-pound title when she defeated former strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk at 125-pounds. She has successfully defended the twice now, with a head kick knockout over Eye, and then a decision over Carmouche in August.

More bouts are expected to be adding to the event in the coming weeks.

Current UFC 247 lineup:

Champ Valentina Shevchenko vs. Katlyn Chookagian – for women’s flyweight title
Mirsad Bektic vs. Dan Ige
Ovince Saint Preux vs. Ryan Spann
Andrea Lee vs. Lauren Murphy
