Michael Chandler batters Tony Ferguson with a front kick knockout for the ages at UFC 274

UFC 274: Oliveira vs Gaethje goes down tonight in Phoenix, Arizona.  The main event may have lost some luster with the champion missing weight by a half pound and being stripped of his title, but the rest of the card is still chock full of exciting matchups.  Rose Namajunas defends her belt in a rematch with Carla Esparza and in an important showdown at lightweight, Michael Chandler (22-7) welcomes Tony Ferguson (25-6) to the octagon.  Chandler has lost his last two which happen to be against the men in the main event.  Ferguson has the same distinction as well as a loss to Beneil Dariush in his last fight almost a year ago at UFC 262: Oliveira vs Chandler.

This is how the “Iron” Mike Chandler and Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson fight played out, including round by round scoring from MyMMANews…

Round 1

First 30 seconds and both fighters are still feeling things out.   Tony Ferguson is active with the kicks and Chandler comes back with a nice jab.  Ferguson stuns Chandler with a left hook who goes down but gets up immediately and now the action has picked up and both guys are throwing.   Ferguson looked confident and comfortable and as he did, Chandler shoots in quickly and gets the double leg take down and is now on top trying to score with ground and pound.   Chandler does a nice job of avoiding an upkick and is right back on top trying to punish Ferguson.   One minute left in the round and Chandler is dominating the position.   The round comes to an end with Chandler on top and was controlling the position for the final 2 minutes of the round

Round 1 scored by MyMMANews 10-9 Chandler

Round 2

A huge front kick square to the jaw from Chandler lands in the first 15 seconds of round 2 and we have a spectacular, highlight real knockout as Tony Ferguson is unconscious.  Vicious and memorable for years to come.

Official score: Michael Chandler wins via knockout (front kick) at 17 seconds of round 2
