Michael Chandler explains why he is the “frontrunner” to fight Conor McGregor next

UFC lightweight contender Michael Chandler explained why he believes he is the “frontrunner” to fight superstar Conor McGregor next.

Chandler is coming off of an absolutely unbelievable knockout when he finished Tony Ferguson with a front kick at UFC 274. It was one of the greatest knockouts of all time in MMA, and it’s a win that should land Chandler another big-name opponent in his next fight. Immediately following the win over Ferguson, Chandler said that he wanted to fight McGregor, and now it looks like he may very well be the frontrunner to get the fight.

Speaking on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast, Chandler explained why he should be the next man to fight McGregor. In his opinion, between what he’s doing with his fists and feet inside the cage, and what he’s doing with his mouth on the mic, he should be next in line.

“I feel like I’m the frontrunner right now, I could be the frontrunner. I’m exciting, I got the hype, I got the people behind me, I got the knockouts, I got the hillbilly fights with (Justin) Gaethje, I got the callout,” Chandler said (h/t BJPenn.com). “People can see me on the mic and they know there’s going to be some verbal jiu-jitsu going on there on the microphones, me and him going back at it, respectively, of course, on my side at least… I think I’m on the cusp of being the guy who’s in the conversation with Conor and very few people get in the conversation with Conor. There you have to take it a little more seriously or put a little bit more weight in that. I still think I beat Conor, I’m fighting next for the title anyway. Nothing is guaranteed, this sport moves quickly. Who knows.”

Do you agree with Michael Chandler that he should be the frontrunner to fight Conor McGregor next?
