Ottman Azaitar released from the UFC after sneaking people into Fight Island bubble

Ottman Azaitar will not be fighting on UFC 257 and is no longer a UFC fighter.

Azaitar, who is 2-0 inside the Octagon with two highlight-reel finishes was set to fight Matt Frevola on the main card of UFC 257. It was a big spotlight for Azaitar. However, he never weighed in and that was because he broke health and safety protocol. Not only is he off the card, but UFC president Dana White announced he was released from the promotion for what he did.

“So, he and his team cut off their wristbands, gave them so someone outside the bubble, I don’t even know how they did it,” White explained to BT Sport. “That guy taped them, showed up here with a bag. He went into a room, shimmied across four balconies when in his room dropped the bag off, changed his clothes, and left. When security tried to stop him he wouldn’t stop. Either way, it is that he is gone. He is no longer a UFC fighter and he is not fighting tonight (UFC 257).”

This is no doubt a bad look for Azaitar. It also not only cost him a chance of fighting on a Conor McGregor pay-per-view card but being a UFC fighter. The undefeated fighter had a ton of hype and many expected him to get his hand raised on Saturday night. He now won’t have the chance to do so. It is also likely he will be blacklisted from the UFC and won’t ever be brought back, so where he will fight now is uncertain as this incident might even scare off other major promotions.

Ottman Azaitar is 13-0 as a pro with 10 wins by KO. He last fought back in September where he scored a first-round TKO over Khama Worthy after knocking out Teemu Packalen in highlight-reel fashion at UFC 242. Before getting to the UFC, the now 30-year-old fought in Brave CF among other promotions.
