Patchy Mix, Bellator 295

Patchy Mix driven to be legendary, motivated by previous training with current opponent Sergio Pettis

During his incredible run through the Bellator MMA bantamweight World Grand Prix, Patchy Mix has ascended to the top of the mountain amongst all bantamweights in the world. Capturing the interim title and the World Grand Prix title when he defeated Raufeon Stots at Bellator 295 with a vicious first-round knockout, the stage was set for Mix to meet former training partner and reigning champion Sergio Pettis in a unification title fight.

The two are now set to meet at Bellator 301, with not only the undisputed title on the line, but the chance for Mix to place himself in legendary status and lead to conversation about his place as the best bantamweight in the world. Speaking to the press during fight week. Mix detailed what a win over Pettis would mean to him and how he remembers times they previously trained together, and how that motivates him ahead of their matchup.

“This means a lot to me, specifically myself. I trained with you six years ago Sergio, I was 4-0 at the time, and you were like a big idol to me to be honest with you. He was headlining the UFC cards when I was 4-0, coming up. I trained with you for the Moreno fight, so it’s like that itself, I had a lot of respect, I looked up to this kid for a long, long time. Shit, he’s my age so I really looked up to him. The biggest name I’ve ever fought, to have that, have it against him, having it against someone who kind of knows my game as well, it’s even more intriguing to me.

I’m just super excited, this is the biggest fight of my life, my 31st fight amateur and pro, I think it’s all come full circle. Six years ago I went to JacksonWink for the first time, my first couple days we trained together, now six years later, we’re gonna unify some titles for a big bag of money, I’m excited.”

Patchy Mix won’t be the only one excited when he faces off against Sergio Pettis, as the stylistic matchup has everyone intrigued and excited for their unification fight at Bellator 301. Coming full circle, not only will the former training partners get to unify the titles, but they’ll also both have he opportunity to cement their place among bantamweight greats.
