Phil Caracappa ready to throwdown at Ring of Combat 60

Phil Caracappa has wrestled just about his whole life. Despite his background, he promises that his fight at Louis Neglia’s Ring of Combat 60 will be a slugfest.

Friday, September 15 in the Tropicana Showroom, Caracappa (2-0) enters the cage to fight the very tough Brandon “Mega” Urquijo (2-1).

“This fight could very well be fight of the night.  I’m not going in there shooting for takedowns.  I’ve seen Brandon before and I said to myself that I knew we would eventually fight.  He comes straight ahead and that’s also what I’m planning to do.”

Could this be a game of cat and mouse?

After talking to him (interview below), I believe him.  Caracappa has truly bonded with striking coach Brian Wright and speaks glowingly of him.  Wright is the owner/head instructor at Killer B Combat Sports Academy, who just helped super prospect Karl Roberson fight his way to a UFC contract.  Caracappa knows cardio and cutting weight from years of wrestling, but you can hear the excitement in his voice when he talks about striking and training with Brian.

Wright is not the only great mind that Caracappa gets to pick. Phil is also coached by Dante’ Rivera, who has been a staple in the mixed martial arts community for years now. Dante’ Rivera BJJ is rich in talented fighters to help Phil hone his ground game and his mental approach. I’ve gotten the chance to witness Rivera cornering, barking instructions on many occasions.  He is a brilliant strategist, passionate, and loves his jiu-jitsu.

This is another excellent match-up from Neglia as Brooklyn MMA’s Urquijo is just coming off of his first career loss and looks to get back in the win column.  Caracappa knows the history of fighters ascending to the next level from ROC and is looking to get his 3rd win and move his name possibly into a chance to fight for a title.

Check out Phil’s interview. He’s very pumped for the opportunity to work his way to the next level.

We will be cageside with live updates, results, photos, and a full recap. Stay tuned to MyMMANews.com
