Raymond Daniels discusses Peter Stanonik rematch at Bellator 257

Raymond Daniels vs Peter Stanonik goes down at Bellator 257 on Friday, April 16th. The two will throw down in a rematch set to broadcast on Showtime.

Excerpts from my recent conversation with the kickboxing sensation can be found below as he looks to carve a deeper swath into the MMA scene.

Raymond Daniels

Looking for closure in the rematch after the inauspicious outcome in the first bout

“I feel great. I felt great heading into the first match. It’s unfortunate it ended that way…I think I’ll be able to go in, establish control and dominance.”

Lessons learned from the first fight that can be applied to the rematch

“I think the biggest thing learned was what is expected during the COVID quarantine of fight week…Just coming out a little more relaxed. A little more composed like I normally do.”

This camp, Daniels is sharpening his tools at Team Alpha Male. But also working with guys like TJ Dillashaw, Juan Archuleta, and Lance Palmer. Training with Mark Munoz and also brother-in-law Sage as well as Colbey Northcutt, his wife.

Bellator 257

His competitive history with MVP and a possible MMA bout against Michael Venom Page

“I’ve known Mike (MVP) for a number of years.  So we are friends first and foremost. But we are both competitors. Mike and I have competed against each other a number of times. We understand the differences of our friendship and our competitiveness…If it makes dollars, it makes sense.”

Colbey Northcutt, Daniels’ wife, has her own fight coming up later this month during the ONE on TNT  series.

Having the same goals, going through a camp together at the same time, “someone to go through the fire with him hand in hand”. These are all supremely important facets of the motivations leading into these respective bouts.

Raymond Daniels vs Peter Stanonik II

His lone MMA loss coming in his debut with Strikeforce on Showtime and coming full circle here

“For me, it puts things into perspective…What you maybe didn’t understand when you were younger…I want to reintroduce myself to Showtime.”
