Sheymon Moraes evens the score, rallies to stop Marlon Moraes late in rematch at PFL 10

The Professional Fighters League returns to us tonight, November 25, 2022, for PFL 10: The Richest Night in Mixed Martial Arts.

Headlining the event is a women’s lightweight championship trilogy showcasing two-time PFL champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist Kayla Harrison (15-0), who faced Laressa Pacheco (18-4) in the main event of the evening.

Co-headlining is a featherweight championship bout between Brendan Loughnane (25-4) and Bubba Jenkins (19-5).

Our preliminary main event of the evening came in the featherweight division between former WSOF bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes (23-10-1) and fellow UFC veteran Sheymon Moraes (14-6), a rematch of their 2015 championship encounter.

Back then, Marlon defeated Sheymon via submission (rear naked choke) at 3:46 of round three to defend his throne for the second time (six total defenses). Both of these Brazilian talents began their martial art tenures with kickboxing and Muay Thai before transitioning to MMA.

In recent years, Marlon had gone 1-5 in his last six coming in, while Sheymon had gone 3-1 over his last four following a three-fight losing skid that, like Marlon, saw him get released by the UFC.

Though both of these men are natural bantamweights, tonight’s rematch took place at 145 lbs as Marlon was originally slated to face fellow UFC veteran Shane Burgos in a featherweight bout, and Sheymon took the fight on short notice.

Continue reading to see how this epic featherweight rematch went down.

Official Result: Sheymon Moraes def. Marlon Moraes vs TKO (punches) at :58 of round three

Marlon is looking good at the start of the bout, as he catches Sheymon with a nice jab followed by a left hook. He then secures a beautiful single leg takedown, but only remains on top for a couple minutes as Sheymon works his way back up.

Marlon’s left hand seemingly can’t miss, though he’s being patient with his attack. Marlon opens up the second round swinging heavy leather before ducking under the return punches from Sheymon to secure a double leg takedown.

After about three minutes on bottom, Sheymon works his way back up once again, and stuffs Marlon’s next takedown attempt in the final minute of the round.

But he’s down two-zip going into the final five minutes.

Marlon is looking sharp early on in the third as well, but Sheymon times a beautiful overhand right that drops him.

Marlon is hurt badly as Sheymon goes in for the kill, securing the TKO stoppage in the third and final round.

Their first fight ended in round three via submission, Marlon the victor, and their rematch also ends in round three, via knockout, Sheymon the victor. You cannot write this.

Did this just set up a 2023 trilogy bout?

Sheymon Moraes is now 15-6 as a professional, and he’s now 4-1 in his last five.

As for Marlon Moraes, he is now 1-6 in his last seven, all six defeats coming via knockout.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
