Steve Mowry ready to get back and cement himself at top of Bellator’s heavyweight division

The last two fights for Steve Mowry have been at best, disappointing and frustrating. In his last fight he fought to a draw against Ali Isaev, which would be frustrating enough, but given the fact it was coming after his previous fight being a no-contest, the frustrations rose even higher. Mowry has not recorded an official win or loss on his professional MMA record since 2021, a win over Rakim Cleveland at Bellator 271 which was a first-round submission.

With the past two fights behind him now, Steve Mowry returns at Bellator 298 in a rematch against Valentin Moldavsky and spoke to MyMMANews.com about the fight, getting through the frustrating past two years, and more. In a division that sees both himself and teammate Linton Vassell vying for a shot at the heavyweight title, with an understanding that they won’t face each other. For now, Mowry is focused on getting himself back into the win column and cementing his place as a top contender in the division.

“I’m just really looking forward to the opportunity to getting in there and figuring it out. Been a year since the first no-contest and I try not to look back too much, but I still can’t help but feel that we need to get to the bottom of that one.”

As Mowry and Vassell continue to work out their own respective career paths to the top, there’s another name, current light-heavyweight champion Vadim Nemkov, who has recently said he may entertain moving up to heavyweight and fighting for a second world title. After his win over Yoel Romero at Bellator 297, Nemkov said he would be open to the opportunity, but Steve Mowry feels if he handles business as he expects to, the 205-pound champion won’t get in his way.

“I feel like as long as I do everything I’m supposed to do and focus on what I need to accomplish, Vadim Nemkov won’t enter the equation. I mean, if I have to fight him at some point, I have to fight him at some point.”

The rankings have a say in matchmaking, branding, and a path to the top, but for Steve Mowry, Bellator 298 is simply going to be a reminder to himself, and the division, about who he is and what he’s capable of.

“To be honest with you, as much as I love putting on a show for the fans and love giving a spectacle for people to looking at, for me deep down it’s always just about glorifying God and putting on performance that reflects my lifestyle. Especially as I get older, every fight is a more intricate, a more specific puzzle, and I look forward to giving a more specific, a more detailed answer, and showcasing that.”

Steve Mowry has gone two years without an official result on his record, and while it’ll help for the trajectory of his career as well as the Bellator MMA heavyweight division, he’s just ready to remind himself why he belongs at the top.
