This is BROADENED HORIZIN. The MMA podcast show hosted by Drake Riggs where we chat with your favorite Japanese and RIZIN superstars… in English!
RIZIN 27 kicks off the 2021 calendar for the promotion and with the countdown comes the first episode of the show featuring four of the event’s biggest names with an additional fifth.
Starting things off was top Japanese flyweight, Shizuka Sugiyama.
At DEEP 100 IMPACT on February 21, the promotion and its founder Shigeru Saeki celebrated 20 years of DEEP. For Sugiyama, she would also celebrate the number as she scored her 20th career victory. Her opponent, Aoi Kuriyama, came up short to Sugiyama’s vicious ground and pound in round one. She now aims to get back in the RIZIN ring.
With RIZIN 27 coming up, it plays host to several newcomers. Perhaps the most fascinating is the bantamweight prospect, Takumi Tamura. Having spent some time at Alliance in San Diego with Eric Del Fierro and Dominick Cruz, Tamura is ready to show what he learned on a grand scale.
Returning to BROADENED HORIZIN as the first two-time guest is none other than the champ, Ayaka Hamasaki. After a stellar 2020 that saw her reclaim her title that she lost the previous year, Hamasaki was awarded with the first-ever pairing of BROADENED HORIZIN awards! Those being for the female fighter of the year as well as submission of the year thanks to her head scissors choke against Miyuu Yamamoto at RIZIN 26. She’ll next look to defend her title in a rematch with Kanna Asakura as the headliners.
Also at RIZIN 27 will be the tandem of UFC veterans, Kazuki Tokudome and Yoshinori Horie who rounded out episode seven. They both have tall tasks ahead of them as Tokudome draws Roberto “Satoshi” de Souza and Horie gets Tetsuya Seki.
All that and more on BROADENED HORIZIN! Watch the full episode in the video above or you can listen on the Loudmouth MMA Podcast Network wherever you find podcasts.
