After a successful win for American mixed martial artist Jorge Masvidal against a fellow American MMA star in Nate Diaz on November 2nd, 2019, Masvidal now has his sights on fighting Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez.
Jorge Masvidal said that he is “dead serious” about wanting to fight Canelo Alvarez after calling out the boxing world champion on Saturday.
Masvidal spoke openly on the MMA Show “Is Canelo a better boxer than me? Has he thrown 10,000 jabs more than me, cause that’s what he does morning and night cause he’s just boxing? Yeah. He’s a better boxer. But I can bring some elements that boxers ain’t used to that are in the legal realm of boxing and throw Canelo completely off his game? F*** yes.”
It seems that the welterweight star, Masvidal, really wants to prove himself in the MMA world and show people that he is serious about boxing.
Masvidal vs Alvarez
“Mexican boxer Alvarez was recently crowned a four-weight world champion, when he beat Sergery Kovalev at the MGM Grand, allowing him to claim the WBO light-heavyweight belt,” says Antonia Gómez, a sports expert from REVIEWBOX, “Alvarez is showing a lot of great potential in his boxing career and is attracting a lot of attention and competitors who want to fight him, such as Jorge Masvidal.”
The 35-year old, American boxer, Masvidal first went professional in 2003 and has since made quite a name for himself in the MMA world. Most recently Masvidal won the UFC BMF title, which was created specially for his fight against Diaz. Previously, Masvidal has competed for Bellator, Strikeforce, Shark Fights, and World Victory Road.
Whilst the 29-year old pro boxer, Alvarez currently holds two titles, including the World Boxing Association Super World Middle Title and the World Boxing Organization World Light Heavy Title. Mexican born Alvarez has won light-middleweight, middleweight, and super-middleweight world titles too.
The two men would definitely create an interesting boxing match that shouldn’t be missed, seen as how both work extremely hard and have a lot to prove and titles to uphold.
Will the Fight Between Masvidal and Alvarez Happen?
Masvidal isn’t the only one with his sights on arranging a fight with Alvarez, as Patricio Pitbull also announced he wanted to fight Alvarez several months ago.
But both Masvidal and Pitbull had better get in line, as up first to fight Alvarez next could be either Gennady Golovkin, Billy Joe Saunders, Callum Smith, John Ryder, Dmitry Bivol, or Demetrius Andrade. It’s obvious that Alvarez has no shortage of competitors to fight, but the question remains who will he fight and who will win?
