Alex Perez explains why Manel Kape fight was scratched at UFC San Antonio

UFC flyweight contender Alex Perez explained why the Manel Kape fight was scratched at UFC San Antonio.

Perez and Kape were expected to fight in an important flyweight bout on the UFC San Antonio main card, but it was announced during the broadcast that Perez had to withdraw at the last minute due to medical issues. Since Perez had had numerous issues with weight cuts in the past, many fans assumed that it was what happened again this time around. But according to Perez, the fight was canceled out of an abundance of caution after he suffered a seizure backstage.

Taking to his social media, Perez opened up about why the fight was canceled, admitting that he suffered a seizure during his pre-fight warmups, forcing the UFC doctors to cancel the fight.

“First and foremost, I want to thank everyone for all the support and concerns. I was doing my pre-fight warm up and had a seizure. I immediately received medical attention. My hydration, electrolytes, etc were all more than adequate. This has nothing to do with weight cut. It was one of the easiest cuts of my career. I will be undergoing further testing in the upcoming weeks to determine the cause. I would appreciate privacy. My apologizes to my opponent and fans. Thank you to the UFC medical team for their help and support,” Perez said.

Perez has now had 12 fights canceled during his UFC run, while only competing nine times. Not many fighters have more canceled fights than actual fights, which is why the fans were so frustrated that this important bout with Kape was scratched. But at the same time, Perez’s health comes first, and you can’t blame the UFC doctors for not letting him fight after his seizure.

What do you think is next for Alex Perez after yet another fight cancelation in the UFC?
