Breast implants cause for UFC 210 fight cancellation
It has been a strange day for the UFC. First, UFC 210 headliners Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson nearly miss the 11 a.m. deadline for early weigh-ins. Then Cormier missed weight, but came back to make weight.
And now we learned through MMA Fighting that even after both fighters made weight, the fight between Cynthia Calvillo and Pearl Gonzalez has been cancelled.
“The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) pulled Pearl Gonzalez from UFC 210 on Friday morning because she has breast implants, sources told MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani. The commission does not allow fighters to compete with implants, per their rules.”
Earlier today Gonzalez weighed in at 116 pounds.
The MMA Fighting report continued, “The NYSAC broke the news to her after weigh-ins were over. Gonzalez seemingly passed all her medicals prior to coming to Buffalo and appeared to be in line to fight until Friday morning.
“Breast implants are something the commission could have addressed with Gonzalez before one day prior to the fight. Female UFC fighters with breast implants have competed in New York before this.”
****EDITOR’S NOTE: Several hours later the fight was back on after the commission consulted with a physician. The fight is a go for tomorrow’s pay-per-view.
