Cage Wars 36 Results: Alexandra Ballou Wins via Submission

Alexandra “The Great” Ballou (2-0) entered the cage Saturday night to take on Amanda Kramny (2-3) for the women’s Cage Wars flyweight title. As Kramny stepped into the cage to challenge Ballou, Ballou’s focus was clear as her eyes didn’t lose sight of her goals inside the cage. These two women were the fourth to last bout of the evening, and one of the six title fights. The fight streamed live on Fite TV pay per view. “The Great” was also nominated by commentators Will Barry and Kyle Carroll, for the performance of the night.

Ballou wasted zero time getting after Kramny, grabbing her head in a Muay Thai clinch, with her hands locked behind the head of Kramny. The undefeated fighter swung Kramny by the head against the cage. After Ballou tossed Kramny against the cage, she landed a couple of knees while taking strikes herself. Kramny was able to land several strikes in the exchange the two women had.

Kramny held Ballou against the cage looking for a takedown when Ballou held on to Kramny’s next and leaped into full guard, wrapping her legs around the waist of Kramny. Ballou stretched out her body, being the taller fighter, which made it difficult for Kramny bring Ballou to the canvas and relieve the pressure on her neck.

While being held up against the cage, Ballou squeezed the neck of Kramny using a Guillotine choke to submit Kramny. The submission came in the first round at 1:24. The submission victory for Ballou improved her record to 3-0 and she is now the Cage Wars Women’s flyweight champion.

The newly crowned champion mentioned in her post-fight interview that she looks to defend her title and turn professional relatively soon. The flyweight champion is a tall fighter for her 125-pound weight class. In addition to her physical attributes, she brings a high level of technical striking and grappling inside the cage, plus a mental toughness that she exemplified in her last bout after suffering a great deal of damage and fighting through it.
