Chris Daukaus vs. Shamil Abdurakhimov scratched from UFC Vegas 33

A heavyweight bout between Chris Daukaus and Shamil Abdurakhimov has been scratched from this Saturday’s UFC Vegas 33 event.

TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter confirmed with sources close to the situation that the Daukaus vs. Abdurakhimov fight — which had been scheduled as the co-main event of this Saturday’s card — will not take place as anticipated this weekend. The fight was actually supposed to take place at UFC Vegas 32 last week but was postponed a week until this weekend, but now we will have to wait longer to watch these two heavyweights fight. According to Bronsteter, the plan is for the UFC to re-book this fight as soon as possible. It’s unknown if it was an injury, visa issues, or COVID-19 protocols that led to the fight being scratched from the event.

Per sources, Chris Daukaus and Shamil Abdurakhimov has been removed from Saturday’s card and will be rescheduled to an upcoming card TBD.

This is very disappointing news for fans of the fighters, who have already had to wait an extra week to watch them throw down. We will now have to wait even longer to see these two fight. The UFC does have three events in August and three more in September, but most of them are taking place in the United States, so if it was visa issues that prevented the fight from taking place in Las Vegas, the next event that the promotion will hold outside of North America will be UFC London in September and then Abu Dhabi in October.

Both Daukaus and Abdurakhimov are top-10 ranked heavyweights so this is a very important fight in the UFC’s heaviest weight class. The winner of the fight figures to get a top-ranked opponent next, particularly if it’s Daukaus, who appears to be a tremendous prospect in a division that is in need of new blood.
