Conor McGregor Expressing Interest in the BMF Title

Conor McGregor already seems to have plenty of options for other fights this year regardless of what happens at UFC 246. He seems to have inserted himself as the back-up plan for when Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov face one another in Brooklyn this April. Justin Gaethje somehow fits into a possible matchup, (even if that’s at the bottom of his list) and fights with Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal seem to be an option too.

While the pre-fight press conference did not feature the Conor McGregor fans were expecting, there were hints of it when asked about looking ahead at other possible fights. McGregor said, “Line them up,” when talking about fights after UFC 246 but one fight, in particular, was one he said a little more, “I’d like a shot at that Bad Mother F**ker belt,” he said as he, like many fans felt the outcome did not fit the title that was created for UFC 244.

UFC President Dana White seems to like the idea of McGregor and Masvidal fighting for the BMF title. “Conor’s talking about wanting a crack at that belt,” White said to TMZ when asked the BMF title would ever resurface. However, the question came up because of the potential of Usman and Masvidal fighting for the welterweight title this year. “We got to see how things play out this weekend,” White concluded when speaking about all the potential fights to make at 170 pounds this year.

Last year was a marquee year for the UFC and McGregor was not really part of it, so win or lose after UFC 246 McGregor will likely try to stay active. The UFC likes to bring stacked cards in July for International Fight Week and November when they come to Madison Square Garden. The BMF title is likely going to return in 2020 if fans want it enough.
