Corey Norman’s First LHW Title Defense vs. James Carroll: MMA is a Selfish Sport – Cage Wars 45
Corey Norman will be defending his light heavyweight title for the first time on January 31, 2020, at Cage Wars 45. The Albany based promotion returns to the beautiful venue at Rivers Casino and Resort in Schenectady, New York. Norman will be among other title fights on the card as he steps inside the Cage Wars octagon verse James “Thor” Carroll. Carroll’s Corner MMA Podcast was lucky enough to catch up with Corey Norman to speak about his upcoming fight with Carroll (No relation). Doors swing wide open at 5 PM and fights begin at 6 PM.
Norman is coming off a victory where he believed he won the first round and in the second round his opponent delivered numerous blows to the back of his head preventing the fight to continue. Norman’s opponent is the one that threw the illegals strikes forcing the referee to end the fight. Aside from the controversy, Norman brought an Olympic level wrestler to the canvas with a single-leg takedown.
With Norman’s victory over Hamdy Abdelwahab, he captured the cruiserweight title for cage wars, making him one of only two people in the Cage Wars history to hold two weight division titles. At Cage Wars 45, Norman will be fighting James Carroll, another fighter with a reach and height advantage. Though Norman has fought larger and on paper “more skilled” opponents, he usually finds a way to pull out the victory.
Expect Norman and Carroll to be the fight of the night! It has that type of potential written all over it as both men are capable of finishing the fight in numerous positions and grinding out the bout. Fans can expect Norman and Carroll to deliver fireworks.
In the interview, Norman spoke about his past fights, his takeaways from the sport of MMA, how it has influenced him as a whole and when he may turn professional. Listen below to the whole interview as Norman really explains in great detail the thoughts and process that goes through his mind leading up to and during a fight. As I mentioned to him in the interview, this teacher gives a brilliant answer that will make any parent proud that their son or daughter has him as a teacher.
