What options remain for UFC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg?

Cris Cyborg releases statement after loss to Amanda Nunes

Amanda Nunes shocked the world at UFC 232 she knocked out Cris Cyborg in just 51 seconds.

Cyborg has been a dominant champion and hasn’t lost since her pro debut way back in 2005. However, that all ended when Nunes came out swinging and wobbled Cyborg early after engaging in a slugging battle. While being wobbled, Cyborg landed some good shots on Nunes, but it was Nunes’ power that was just too much for Cyborg. Nunes ended up knocking Cyborg out to shock the world.

No one expected the fight to go like this. But the long-time champion in Cyborg was all class post-fight. She knew Nunes was a tough fighter and that she could very well lose this fight. In the end, it just wasn’t her night and after the loss, Cyborg was very gracious in defeat and released a heartfelt statement on Instagram.

“Today was not our day, but I want you to know that I am very grateful for your affection,” Cyborg wrote on Instagram. “Life is like that one day we lose and one day we win! Belt for me has always been symbolic, the most important is to be a champion in the lives of people making a difference in this world! Thank you, God, I am with you in victory and defeat until the end of my days!”

Cyborg may have very well fought her final fight in the UFC. It has been well documented that she has interest in becoming a professional boxer. That was something she echoed before the fight in an interview.

“It has always been a dream of mine to have a professional boxing fight,” Cyborg said to BJPENN.com. “If that opportunity presents itself I am ready for the challenge.”

Although Cyborg lost in stunning fashion, she seemed to be in good spirits after the fight speaking to the media at the post-fight press conference and in the statement to Instagram.
