Demetrious Johnson doesn’t see a title shot in the near future

Demetrious Johnson was featured on today’s episode of the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, where he discussed his next moves as a ONE Championship flyweight contender.

In the interview, Johnson was asked if a rematch with titleholder Adriano Moraes was next for him.

Johnson replied, “no, I don’t believe so. I think I’m going to be fighting probably a couple more before earning that title shot again.”

“Adriano, he’s tough, man. He has an interesting way about going about how he fights,” Johnson tells Helwani.

Johnson continues, “so I’m going to make sure next time I do get the opportunity, it will probably be my last opportunity, I want to make sure I’m fully prepared for that fight.”

Johnson (31-4-1) is coming off of a second-round submission win against Rodtang Jitmuangnon last month at ONE X

As the former UFC flyweight champion, Johnson held the UFC belt for nearly six years. After making the move to ONE Championship in 2019, he has gone 4-1 with the organization, with his sole ONE FC loss coming by way of knockout by champion Moraes.

Though a title shot rematch is well deserved for the number one ranked flyweight, he plans on honing his craft and making sure the best possible version of himself will enter the cage when that time comes.
