LIVE – EBI 12 Results – The Female Flyweights + Combat Jiu Jitsu
Sunday, July 30, 2017 at 9PM ET/6PM PT on UFC Fight Pass
The top 16 women in the world at 125 lbs will compete for the first women’s EBI championship title and a potential $20,000 cash prize at EBI 12. Plus, the first female combat jiu jitsu bracket featuring four MMA fighters from both Bellator and Invicta FC.
The event takes place at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, California, Sunday, July 30 and can be streamed live on UFC Fight Pass.

MAIN CARD FIRST ROUND MATCH UPS:
Talita Alencar (Alliance Los Angelos) v. Ffion Davies (CF 24 Jiu Jitsu/East Coast Jiu Jitsu)
Result: Talita Alencar flattens Davies out on her stomach and submits her by rear naked choke towards the very end of regulation.
Crystal Demopolous (Vitor Olivera GF Team) v. Rachel Cummins (Gracie Fighter Dojo)
Result: Rachel Cummins submits Demopolous by dead orchard armbar towards the end of regulation.
Kayla Patterson (Memphis Judo and Jiu Jitsu) v. Gabi McComb (Gracie Humaita)
Result: 10 minute regulation expired so they went to overtime rounds.
McComb chose back control first and got a rear naked choke in 12 seconds. Patterson chose the spiderweb position but couldn’t submit McComb faster than 12 seconds. McComb takes the win, but doesn’t bank any money if she were to win the whole tournament.
Kristina Barlan (Caio Terra Association) v. Gabby Romero (Clube Hollywood BJJ/Legacy BJJ)
Result: 10 minute regulation expired so they went to overtime rounds.
Romero chose back control first and got a lot of riding time in before Barlan escaped. Barlan then chose back control and Romero escaped almost immediately. In the top of the second overtime round Romero chose back control again and again racked up a good bit of time before Barlan escaped. In the bottom of the second overtime round Barlan switched it up and chose the spiderweb position. She used a bicep crush to maintain control and was able to accumulate a decent bit of ride time before Romero escaped. Romero chose back control again in the top of the third and final overtime round and was able to secure a submission by rear naked choke. Barlan then chose spiderweb but was unable to secure a submission. Romero escaped and took the win by fastest submission in the third round of overtime.
Pati Fontes (Checkmat) v. Katherine Shen (10th Planet Freaks-San Diego)
Result: 10 minute regulation expired so they went to overtime rounds.
Shen chose back control first and Fontes escaped. Fontes chose back control as well and immediately flattened Shen out, but Shen was able to flip around and get the escape. Shen chose spiderweb at the top of the second overtime round and used a bicep crush to get the armbar submission from Fontes. Fontes chose back control and Shen escaped again, taking a huge upset win by submission in the second round of overtime.
Livia Gluchowska (Absolute MMA) v. Erin Blanchfield (Silver Fox BJJ)
Result: Gluchowska just barely escaped an armbar at the end of regulation and they went to overtime rounds.
Blanchfield picked spiderweb position and Gluchowska escaped. Gluchowska also picked spiderweb and Blanchfield escaped. Blanchfield then chose back control in the top of the second overtime round and secured a rear naked choke submission. Gluchowksa chose spiderweb position and Blanchfield escaped, with the win by submission in the second round of overtime.
Olympia Watts (Gracie Barra Texas) v. Lila Smadja (10th Planet HQ)
Result: Lila Smadja got the fastest win of the night when she jumped on a mounted guillotine choke at 23 seconds into the first round. She is now the third woman, along with Talita Alencar and Rachel Cummins, to bank a potential $5k for her submission win within the regulation round, which she would take home if she were to win the entire tournament.
Fiona Watson (Fight Club/Notorious MMA) v. Nikki Sullivan (Nice Guy Submission Fighting)
Result: Nikki Sullivan got the win at 4:13 by scissor choke, adding her name to the list of potential cash winners and completing the first round matches.
COMBAT EBI ROUND 1 MATCH UPS:
ILIMA-LEI MACFARLANE (10th PLANET FREAKS) v. BROOKE MAYO (RALPH GRACIE)
Result: 10 minute regulation expired so they went to overtime rounds where slaps are no longer legal.
Mayo chose the spiderweb position first and Macfarlane escaped. Macfarlane chose the spiderweb position as well and had a fully extended armbar, but Mayo toughed it out and Macfarlane switched to a triangle choke, securing the submission win in the first round of overtime.
CELINE HAGA (JACKSON WINK MMA) v. AMY MONTENEGRO (GRACIE BARRA)
Result: 10 minute regulation expired so they went to overtime rounds where slaps are no longer legal.
Montenegro chose back control and transitioned to an armbar set up before Haga escaped. Haga chose back control as well and submits Montenegro in the first round of overtime by rear naked choke.
QUARTER FINAL MATCH UPS:
Talita Alencar (Alliance Los Angelos) v. Rachel Cummins (Gracie Fighter Dojo)
Result: Talita Alencar secured an armbar submission in the last 10 seconds of regulation, despite an illegal slam by Cummins. She has now banked a potential $10k cash prize for her two submissions in regulation.
Gabi McComb (Gracie Humaita) v. Gabby Romero (Clube Hollywood BJJ/Legacy BJJ)
Result: 10 minute regulation expired so they went to overtime rounds.
McComb chose back control first and Romero escaped. Romero also chose back control and McComb escaped. McComb chose back control again at the top of the second overtime round and transitioned to a belly down armbar submission. Romero failed to pull off a submission in the bottom of the second overtime round so McComb took the win with an armbar submission.
Katherine Shen (10th Planet Freaks-San Diego) v. Erin Blanchfield (Silver Fox BJJ)
Result: Erin Blanchfield secured a submission win by kimura within regulation and banked her first potential $5k.
Lila Smadja (10th Planet HQ) v. Nikki Sullivan (Nice Guy Submission Fighting)
Result: Lila Smadja gets another quick submission win by heel hook at 48 seconds into regulation and is up to a potential $10k cash prize.
SEMI FINAL MATCH UPS:
Talita Alencar (Alliance Los Angelos) v. Gabi McComb (Gracie Humaita)
Result: 10 minute regulation expired so they went to overtime rounds.
Alencar chose the spiderweb position and got a good bit of ride time in before McComb escaped. McComb chose back control and Alencar escaped quickly. Alencar then chose back control at the top of the second overtime round and McComb escaped. McComb took back control and Alencar stands up and shakes her off again. Alencar took back control in the top of the third and final overtime round and McComb escaped. McComb took back control again for the bottom of the third overtime round, starts gaining riding time, and holds on with a body triangle until the time runs out and McComb wins by fastest escape time after three rounds of overtime.
Erin Blanchfield (Silver Fox BJJ) v. Lila Smadja (10th Planet HQ)
Result: Erin Blanchfield gets the submission win by armbar at the very end of regulation in another big upset win, increasing her potential cash prize to $10k.
COMBAT JIU JITSU FINALS:
ILIMA-LEI MACFARLANE (10th PLANET FREAKS) v. CELINE HAGA (JACKSON WINK MMA)
Result: Ilima-lei secured a kimura submission win in regulation and became the first ever women’s flyweight combat jiu jitsu champion, winning $2,500.
FINALS:
Gabi McComb (Gracie Humaita) v. Erin Blanchfield (Silver Fox BJJ)
Result: 10 minute regulation expired and they went to overtime rounds.
Erin Blanchfield gets a submission by armbar in the top of the second overtime round and is the first women’s flyweight EBI champion, with a cash prize of $10,000.
