Heinisch dismantles Meerschaert via TKO in 1 at UFC 250

On Saturday night, June 6, the UFC holds its first-ever pay-per-view event inside the Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The promotions’ fifth event during the COVID-19 pandemic, UFC 250 is headlined by double champion Amanda Nunes, who defends her featherweight strap against Felicia Spencer.

The co-main event bantamweight clash between former champion Cody Garbrandt and Raphael Assuncao.

Coming off of two consecutive losses, Ian Heinisch takes on Gerald Meerschaert in a middleweight contest.

Since coming into the UFC, Heinsich has had an inconsistent stretch. He brings a wealth of experience into the Octagon coming into the at UFC 250, as he held his own with the likes of and Antonio Carlos Jr. Derek Brunson.

Meerschaert is coming off a slick rear naked finish at UFC 248 against Deron Winn. In an age old classic of striker versus grappler, Heinsich vs Meerschaert is set to push either fighter a notch in the rankings to contention.

The fighters decide not to touch gloves in the bout is underway. Heinsich starts to contest with a leg kick. Both fighters fire leg kicks at the same time. Heinsich comes forward with a jab and a teep kick. He follows with a leg kick. Meerschaert is taking his time to find his range, pawing his punches followed by a jab to exit. Meerschaert triples up on his job and follows up with a straight left, missing its target. Heinsich circles against the cage and lands an overhand right that drops Meerschaert to the floor. Heinsich doesn’t waste any time and follow the hurt Meerschaert and swarms with ground and pound. As the unanswered punches accumulate, the referee jumps in to call a halt to the contest.

Winner: Ian Heinsich via TKO at 1:14 into round 1.
