Jon Jones hoping to fight Stipe Miocic next after defeating Ciryl Gane at UFC 285

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is hoping to fight Stipe Miocic next after defeating Ciryl Gane for the vacant UFC heavyweight title at UFC 285.

Jones is returning to the Octagon for the first time in over three years next month when he fights Gane for the vacant heavyweight belt, a title that Francis Ngannou gave up last month after he was released by the UFC. Jones vs. Gane is a very intriguing fight between two excellent fighters, and it should be very interesting to watch it play out. While this is a very close fight on paper, Jones is obviously confident that he will get the job done. In fact, “Bones” already has his next opponent in mind for his first title defense.

Speaking to Kanpai Pandas on a recent Twitter Spaces, Jones said that if he beats Gane as he expects himself to, then he hopes that he fights the former champion Miocic in his next fight later this year.

“I’ve got my sights on Stipe Miocic. I think it just means the most. There’s a lot of guys out there, but for me, personally, for my legacy, to defeat the greatest heavyweight of all-time, it just means the most to me,” Jones said (via MMAFighting.com). “As far as how soon, hopefully I get out of this fight with no serious injuries, but I’d let to get out there as soon as possible. My goal is anywhere from two to three fights (this year) depending on how it looks.”

Many consider Miocic the greatest heavyweight in UFC history, so it makes sense Jones would pursue this fight despite the fact the former champ hasn’t fought in two years since he lost his belt to Ngannou. If Jones is trying to cement his legacy as MMA’s GOAT, then beating someone like Miocic would certainly help strengthen his argument.

Do you think Jon Jones will defeat Ciryl Gane at UFC 285, and do you want to see him fight Stipe Miocic next if that happens?
