Leon Edwards plans to fight ‘racist scumbag’ Colby Covington in December, believes Woodley quit

Leon Edwards wasn’t too impressed with Colby Covington’s performance and wants to fight the former interim champion later this year.

In the main event of UFC Vegas 11, Covington earned a fifth-round TKO win over Tyron Woodley after the former champ injured his rib. Following the win, “Chaos” called for a rematch with Kamau Usman or a fight against Jorge Masvidal. Yet, for Edwards, he believes he should be the one to fight Covington.

“Dont worry I’ll take out the racist scumbag, December. Let’s see if @ColbyCovMMA joins the “I won’t fight Leon club” and goes running like the rest of them. @ufc @UFCEurope,” Edwards wrote.

Leon Edwards vs. Colby Covington certainly makes sense given Usman is set to fight Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal is rumored to rematch Nate Diaz. If those fights come to fruition, Edwards and Covington would both be available for an end of year showdown or a fight in early 2021.

If Edwards and Covington do fight, the winner would no doubt get the next title shot. It is also an interesting fight given we can see how the Englishman’s takedown defense is and how he would deal with the pace of Covington. It also allows Chaos a chance to build some more momentum for a chance to rematch Usman.

While Covington had the dominant performance, Edwards believes Woodley quit.

“Anyone thought Woodley quit? Or just me,” he added.

Leon Edwards has not fought since he beat Rafael dos Anjos back in July of 2019. Since then, he has been waiting for a fight. He was supposed to fight Woodley at UFC London in March but the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Englishman has been waiting on the sidelines for a fight and now wants to return against Colby Covington later this year in a number one contender bout.
