Matt Frevola not getting sucked into a brawl with Frank Camacho, focused on a technical display

Matt Frevola is not anticipating a brawl in his next outing.

The 30-year-old New York native will enter the Octagon for the second time this year against Frank Camacho at UFC 263 in Glendale, Arizona on June 12 in front of a packed arena. With that type of environment, fighters will be looking to play off the energy of the crowd.

His opponent, “The Crank”, has a propensity of getting into drag-out melees, which the rabid fan base love, yet Frevola has a different outlook on the encounter.

“Camacho definitely likes to brawl,” Frevola told MyMMANews. “I don’t want to get sucked into that brawl. I wanna keep it technical and mix it up. He is a black belt on the ground but he doesn’t really use his jiu-jitsu too much. I’m gonna really test that and mix it up with him. Use my whole array of mixed martial arts to go in there and really put on a good display of my talents.

“Drag him into deep waters and see if he can swim. That’s what I like to do. See if he’s been skipping out on his cardio. I definitely would love to get a good third-round finish. Put a great fight on and then finish him late.”

Fans love when fighters look for a rock’em sock’em type of collision inside the cage. For longevity and brain health, it is not the best option for individuals who want a successful run with the organization.

“Definitely not the smartest [to brawl every fight],” he said. “I used to be that guy. And then I had my first UFC fight and got knocked out in a minute by a juiced-up Mexican guy, you know.

“You live, you learn. I just got to be smart out there. It happens every once in a while. You’re going to get into a firefight with somebody. But being able to call back, reset and stay technical in there and get to your game plan. I think that’s what you need to do to get to that next level.”

Earlier this year, “Steamrolla” made an appearance in Abu Dhabi on Fight Island. This time around he will remain stateside and take full advantage of the open arena.

“I’m excited to go to Arizona,” Frevola revealed. “I hear Arizona is beautiful and to get on this UFC 263. Sold out arena, I’m pumped about that.

“We got all my friends, all my family. We got like 40 of us coming out from New York and a bunch coming down from Tampa. They got a suite. So you’re going to hear the Steamrolla chants throughout the arena.”
