Miranda Maverick returns this summer against Maycee Barber

An intriguing women’s flyweight bout between top-15 ranked fighters Miranda Maverick and Maycee Barber has been booked for this summer.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto confirmed the Maverick vs. Barber fight via UFC president Dana White. Maverick, the No. 15 ranked flyweight in the UFC, is being given the opportunity to move up a spot in the rankings when she takes on the No. 14 ranked Barber in this battle between two young prospects. The bout will take place at a UFC event on July 24. The card also features a newly-revealed women’s bantamweight bout between contenders Aspen Ladd and Macy Chiasson.

Maverick (9-2) has looked fantastic in the UFC so far with back-to-back wins over Gillian Robertson and Liana Jojua. Overall, the 23-year-old American is riding a five-fight win streak into this bout, though that doesn’t include two other one-round fights in Invicta FC that she also won. Overall, she could be on a seven-fight win streak right now if you counted those ‘exhibition bouts’ that were part of a one-night tournament in Invicta FC that she won. Maverick is a young woman with a lot of talent and the UFC is giving her a big opportunity here to jump higher up the rankings.

Barber (8-2) joined the UFC in 2018 and quickly picked up three straight wins over Hannah Cifers, JJ Aldrich, and the aforementioned Robertson. The 22-year-old American was looking like a serious contender for a second there, and she even had aspirations of becoming the youngest champion in UFC history. However, she lost in a huge upset to veteran Roxanne Modafferi and she suffered an ACL tear in that fight. After taking a year off, Barber returned in February and suffered a unanimous decision loss to Alexa Grasso. This fight against Maverick is, in many ways, a must-win fight.

Who do you think wins this women’s flyweight bout between Miranda Maverick and Maycee Barber?
