Ovince Saint Preux returns to light heavyweight, meets Shamil Gamzatov on Aug. 22

Ovince Saint Preux is returning to 205 pounds after a brief stint at heavyweight, facing Shamil Gamzatov on Aug. 22.

MMA Fighting was the first to report the matchup. The two were scheduled to compete in April, but Gamzatov withdrew due to travel restrictions stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic. The entire card was later scrapped.

Ovince Saint Preux is coming off a split decision loss to heavyweight Ben Rothwell at UFC on ESPN+ 29 on May 13. The 37-year-old has competed inside the octagon 20 times as a light heavyweight.

In his last fight at 205 pounds, he tapped Michael Oleksiejczuk with a second-round von flue choke at UFC on ESPN+ 18 this past September.

Gamzatov is undefeated at 14-0. The 29-year-old is coming off a split decision win over Klidson Abreau in his UFC debut in November 2019. Before signing with the UFC, Gamzatov picked up back-to-back wins inside the PFL cage against Eddie Gordon and Rex Harris.

The event will take place inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
