Teofimo Lopez to challenge Josh Taylor for WBO & Ring Magazine titles on June 10

Former IBF, WBA, WBO, and Ring Magazine lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez (18-1) has his next bout lined up, as he’s slated to face WBO & Ring Magazine light-welterweight champion Josh Taylor (19-0) late this spring.

This bout is to go down live in New York City, NY, on June 10, 2023.

Teofimo Lopez attempts to become a two-division world champion in this affair by handing Scottish champion Josh Taylor the first defeat of his career.

Lopez is most well-known for his unanimous decision victory over Vasyl Lomachenko in October of 2020, which was a huge upset at the time. Most believed Lopez to be a knockout artist that had to get it done within the first few rounds, but he very impressively showed just how technically sound he is in that fight.

However, he’d lose those four titles in his next fight to George Kambosos Jr via 12-round split decision.

Since then, Lopez has rebounded against the likes of Pedro Campa (TKO) and Sandor Martin (SD), where he won and defended the WBO international light-welterweight championship.

Josh Taylor on the other hand has been perfect thus far into his career, winning his first world title back in 2019 with his claim of the IBF light-welterweight championship.

Taylor has since added the WBA, Ring Magazine, WBO, and WBC light-welterweight championships to his resume over his latest four appearances.

As amateurs, Lopez went 150-20, while Taylor had over 150 bouts himself, though it’s unknown what his exact record was. Lopez won the Golden Gloves national championship in 2015 prior to turning professional, while Taylor won the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

Who do you see coming out on top in this epic championship bout going down this June?

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
