Tom Aspinall, UFC London

Tom Aspinall impresses with 73 second knockout of Marcin Tybura in UFC London main event

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to us today, July 22, 2023, for our second UFC London event of the year.

UFC London went down live from the o2 Arena in London, England, and was headlined by a pair of heavyweight contenders in no. 5 ranked Tom Aspinall (13-3) and no. 10 ranked Marcin Tybura (24-8).

Following a five-fight finish streak to begin his UFC tenure, Aspinall came into the bout having suffered a defeat in his most recent outing to no. 4 ranked Curtis Blaydes, a fight that was stopped just 15 seconds in due to a knee injury the Englishman suffered.

That was exactly 364 days ago.

Tybura on the other hand came into today’s main event on a two-fight win streak, having gone 7-1 over his most recent eight appearances.

Official Result: Tom Aspinall def. Marcin Tybura via TKO (punches) at 1:13 of round one

Aspinall nearly lands a head kick right as the bout begins, and it would’ve been a vicious one. It landed on the arm of Tybura with a lot of velocity. Aspinall lands a pair of back-to-back left hooks, before landing a beautiful snap kick to the body as he gets out of range.

Aspinall lunges in for a right elbow, which misses, before he lands a left hook-right cross combination, the cross of which drops Tybura on the spot. From here it only took a few follow up shots on the ground and the referee was forced to stop the action.

Aspinall has always had a lot of potential, we all saw it from the very start when he debuted in the UFC with a 7-2 record back in July of 2020. Aspinall’s striking is just so precise, accurate, and everything is thrown with an immense amount of speed.

And, at just 30 years of age in the heavyweight division, the future couldn’t look much brighter for the young Englishman, who’s now 6-1 in the UFC, the only defeat coming via injury.

Tom Aspinall just finished the third world champion opponent of his career this evening at UFC London: Andrei Arlovski (rear naked choke, former UFC heavyweight champion), Alexander Volkov (armbar, former Bellator & M-1 Global heavyweight champion), Marcin Tybura (TKO, former M-1 Challenge heavyweight champion).

The Englishman has called out the winner of Ciryl Gane versus Sergey Spivak following this victory at UFC London, Spivak of which he already knocked out in under three minutes.

UFC London, as usual and as expected, turned into a great event once again.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
