Worst leg breaks in MMA history – VIDEOS
Watch the worst leg breaks video put together by The RE-UP! on YouTube above
Throughout the history of competitive mixed martial arts it is rare to see a major injury occur, let alone one such as an arm or leg break. While MMA can be violent (that’s kind of the point isn’t it?) the number of bone fractures or breaks is minimal in comparison to bruises and cuts.
These leg breaks typically occur when a fighter throws a kick and the offensive move is blocked or checked by the defense of the opponent. While it may happen to one fighter, it may not happen to another. Many factors come into play, and even the smallest of margins can change the outcome. One inch to the left or right and the fighter might walk away unscathed. Other times it results in a snap and by the time the fighter has realized what has happened, they have already attempted to plant their foot and the leg bends.
UFC fans were first introduced to a violent leg snap when the late Corey Hill threw a kick at Fight for the Troops 1 in December 2008 against Dale Hartt. Hill’s leg break was gruesome and new to MMA fans as it was unlike anything many had every seen on television before.
The fight proved to be Hill’s last inside the octagon, although he did successfully return to action two years later at Raging Wolf 6.

Since the unfortunate injury to Hill, a similar injury has occurred on multiple occasions including high-level fights such as Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman, Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier, Chris Weidman vs. Uriah Hall, and others.
Despite suffering one of the most brutal and shocking injuries / leg breaks to ever take place inside the octagon, former UFC middleweight champion Weidman is planning a return to competition this year.
