Alexa Grasso vs. Viviane Araujo headlines UFC Fight Night on October 15

A women’s flyweight bout between top-10 ranked contenders Alexa Grasso and Viviane Araujo headlines the UFC Fight Night card set to take place on October 15.

The main event for this card was originally supposed to pit top middleweight Jared Cannonier and Sean Strickland against one another, but Strickland fell off the card due to injury. With less than six weeks to go until the card, the UFC decided to elevate the Grasso vs. Araujo fight, which had been slated as the co-main event, into the headlining slot. This UFC Fight Night card takes place on October 15 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Stepping into the main event spotlight @AlexaGrasso and @ViviAraujoMMA go head-to-head for 5 rounds on October 15th!

Although some fans have criticized this matchup as not being main event worthy, on paper it is a very intriguing fight between two of the top-10 ranked 125lbs women’s fighters in the UFC. The promotion is now letting them both get their first chance to headline a UFC card.

Grasso (14-3) is coming off three straight wins over Joanne Wood, Maycee Barber, and Ji Yeon Kim to emerge as a serious contender for UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko. A member of the UFC roster since 2016, Grasso is in the prime of her career right now at 29 years of age, and a win over Araujo might be enough to get her a title shot at 125lbs, or at least a No. 1 contender fight. By all means, this is the biggest fight of her career.

Araujo (11-3) has been in the UFC since 2019 and she’s 5-2 overall in the promotion. In her last fight, she defeated Andrea Lee for arguably the biggest win of her career to date. That win saw her bounce back from a controversial decision loss to Katlyn Chookagian prior to that. At age 35, it will be time for Araujo to challenge for the title if she wins this fight.

Who do you think wins this women’s flyweight bout between Alexa Grasso and Viviane Araujo?
