Art of War Cage Fighting 31: Turnbull vs Cafaro preview
Art of War Cage Fighting 31: Turnbull vs Cafaro will take place Friday evening, September 15th at the Valley Forge Casino Resort. This main event, and title fight, is much more than I can put into words. Both of these gentlemen have been involved on the regional MMA scene for their whole adult lives. There is subplot after subplot in this story that’s about to be told. This is the biggest fight of their careers and the regional scene in Pennsylvania and New Jersey are salivating for it.
I have been with these guys for many years and consider them both good friends. Ever since AOW President Mike Bickings and matchmaker Jillian Peterson announced this agreement, I have been torn. I go back many years with both men as fighters and friends outside of the cage. Ryan and Matt have been important members in the MMA community and remain that.
“Korean Thunder” Ryan Kim Cafaro
Cafaro has been fighting since 2009. He has used his skills as a teacher and coach to become a permanent fixture in the sport. Ryan has been in numerous UFC corners and is trying to get in the Octagon himself. 10-5 and the winner of 3 straight, Tapology.com ranks him as the #1 featherweight in NJ and PA. Cafaro is welcome in numerous locker rooms but has spent much of his time at Nick Catone MMA. He has a wealth of knowledge at his disposal, plus his techniques and strategy continue to make him a sought-after instructor.
“White Chocolate” Matt Turnbull
Turnbull showed me how tough he was in 2012 in his debut against Joel Vasquez. Vasquez is a terror and hit Matt with everything including the kitchen sink. Turnbull never quit and keep coming back for more. He may have lost the fight, but surely proved something to himself. “White Chocolate” went on to a 7-2 amateur career and is now 6-4 with 4 straight victories in his professional career. He is surging and would like nothing more than to knock off the #1 guy in the weight class.
