Cory Sandhagen wishes his main event fight against Song Yadong ended differently: ‘I was really looking forward to a fifth round’

Cory Sandhagen wishes his UFC Vegas 60 main event scrap against Song Yadong didn’t end by doctor stoppage.

Early on, Yadong was having success but Sandhagen began to take over and he landed a shot that opened a nasty cut above Yadong’s eye. It immediately got the doctor’s attention as he looked at it multiple times, but Sandhagen says he wasn’t thinking about the cut at all.

“I honestly didn’t think about the cut. I could see the blood going into his mouth. He’s kind of a freaky dude. He’s smiling and enjoying it, getting the blood in his mouth. He’s kind of one of those guys,” Sandhagen said after UFC Vegas 60. “I noticed that, but outside of that, it was stick to the game plan and make sure I don’t get my ass knocked out by him.”

Although Sandhagen wasn’t thinking of the cut above Yadong’s eye, it ended up stopping the fight which was a bummer for Sandhagen as he wanted the fifth round to happen.

“Song is a hell of a fighter. I knew that he was going to be super tough. The guy hits really hard and he defended the takedowns really well. I think I was starting to figure him out as the fight was going on, so I was really looking forward to a fifth round. I felt good, I felt fresh,” Sandhagen added. “I felt like my eyes were still working and my fifth round was going to be good, but I wanted to know that. That was kind of a bummer.”

With the doctor stopping the fight, Cory Sandhagen snapped his two-fight losing skid and is now back in the title picture. However, he says he still isn’t too pleased with the win as he did want to go out there and fight in the final round.

“I didn’t win good enough,” Sandhagen said. “But that’s typically how I feel after every win. I TKO’d him so no [I’m not interested in a rematch], not really. I kind of want to fight up in the rankings now.”
