Dustin Poirier, Conor McGregor, UFC 264

Dustin Poirier says he’s ‘living rent-free’ in Conor McGregor’s head

Dustin Poirier knows he’s in Conor McGregor’s head.

In the lead-up to UFC 178, McGregor and Poirier had a verbal back-and-forth ahead of their first meeting which took place at featherweight. The Irishman was at his peak with his trash-talking and Poirier admitted he got into his head and in the fight, McGregor scored a first-round KO.

After the fight, both men went their own ways with McGregor becoming a champ-champ but they rematched at UFC 257. Despite the first fight being full of trash-talking they were nothing but nice to each other but this time, it was Poirier who knocked out McGregor in the second round. In the trilogy in July, the Irishman brought back his trash-talking self but it didn’t work as it was Poirier who once again got his hand raised, but it wasn’t the way he wanted as “Notorious” broke his leg at the end of the first round, something that none of the sports betting experts could have predicted.

Since the fight, McGregor has been tweeting about Poirier and for “The Diamond” he says that proves he’s in his head.

“It doesn’t really bother me – I don’t really care,” Poirier said on ESPN+ Q&A session. “When I think about in hindsight, like today I was thinking about it like, ‘The guy’s probably losing his mind.’ He can’t really train. He’s got a hurt leg that he’s trying to rehab. Rent-free. I’m just living rent-free (in his head).”

Poirier could very well be right that he is living rent-free in McGregor’s head as he is rehabbing his broken leg and looking to return to the Octagon next year. When he does, perhaps he faces Poirier for the fourth time as the trilogy didn’t have a definitive ending as many were hoping for. However, in order for that to even happen, McGregor needs to rehab his leg and be able to get into a training camp and fight.
