How To Make the Most of Your Training Rest Days

You must include rest days in your training program, as your body needs time to rest and recuperate. Ideally, try and take at least one day of rest a week. You will find yourself getting burnt out and be more likely to get injured if you don’t take time out.  However, if you are used to a busy schedule, it can be difficult to know what to do with yourself on the days you are not training.  Here is a guide to help you make the most of your training rest days.

Stay Supple

A rest day doesn’t mean that you have to spend the day lying on the couch and doing nothing more active than changing the TV channel. Help your body to relax and repair by doing some simple stretching exercises or try some yoga to stay supple and ensure that your body does not become stiff and awkward.

Eat Properly

It can be very tempting to give yourself a day off your healthy diet on a rest day and spend too much time eating junk food.  This will not help your body in the long term, and it will make training feel harder too.  You need to feed your body properly to get the best performance out of it, so make sure you eat as well as you do on training days and don’t be tempted to reach for the sugary snacks.

Sleep

Sleep is one of the most important things you can do for your body, as it is while you are asleep that your body can properly repair itself from your training program.  A good night’s sleep can help your training performance, as it can make you faster and give you more agility.  Sleep badly and your athletic performance will suffer.

Catch Up on Reading

Learn how to improve your training performance by educating yourself on your days off.  Pick up tips online or in magazines about how to improve your technique and performance and put these into practice on your training days.  If you understand the theory behind why your coach or personal trainer is telling you to do something a certain way, it will help you immensely. You will be surprised how much difference this can make to your overall performance.

Take A Day Off

Don’t feel guilty about taking time out for yourself on rest days and doing something totally different.  Whether you want to run some errands, catch up with friends or spend some time on fun online sites such as www.spincasino.com. Remember that you have earned the right to some time off after all the hard work you have been putting in, so make the most of it while you can.

Rest days are very important to your training schedule, so follow these tips to help you make the most of them.  These guidelines will help you to make the most of your training performance too, as you will be more able to work hard on your training days.
