Jorge Masvidal says he is only “truly interested” in fighting Kamaru Usman again

Jorge Masvidal might be back in the UFC Octagon soon, but he is unsure of who he will be fighting. If he had it his way he would be challenging champion Kamaru Usman again for the welterweight title. Masvidal hasn’t fought since he lost to Usman back in April. That was Masvidal’s second straight loss to Usman, but he still wants to run it back a third time. Masvidal recently spoke to fans in a Q and A session on Rumble.com and addressed who he wants in his next fight.

“Right now the only fight that I am truly interested in is Usman,” Masvidal said. “I’m going to do whatever it takes to get back in front of Usman. If that means beating up that fragile, never done nothing in the sport guy (Covington), then I’ll beat the crap out of him. My end game and everything for me is getting back in there with Usman so that’s where I’m at right now.”

Masvidal will have to wait a bit if he wants another shot at Usman since the champ is currently slated to take on Colby Covington in the main event of the November 6 card in New York City. Currently, Masvidal is sitting in the number six spot in the rankings. It would seem that Masvidal will need to face another opponent and win to have a chance at another title shot. Recently it seems that he may be open to taking another fight in the meantime and stated that he will be talking that over with the UFC brass later this week.

“I’m going to Las Vegas on Tuesday or Monday and Wednesday and Thursday we have meetings with the UFC so once we get out of those meetings we’ll have a much more clear picture of who, when, and where,” Masvidal said. “I’m just waiting, I’m just as anxious as you.”

One name that Masvidal has been targeting is Nick Diaz. Diaz is making his return to the Octagon after having been out for six years. Perhaps if Diaz can get the win over Robbie Lawler next week he could step in to revenge his brother’s loss against Masvidal. Jorge Masvidal is one of the most popular fighters on the UFC roster at this time and he can most likely headline a fight card no matter who he fights next. With the ball seemingly in his court, he could be calling his own shots and making a move that favors him and also gets him closer to the Usman rematch he wants so badly.
