Khalil Rountree wants UFC main event slot following KO win over Chris Daukaus at UFC Vegas 78

UFC light heavyweight contender Khalil Rountree wants a UFC main event slot following his recent KO win over Chris Daukaus at UFC Vegas 78.

Rountree won his fourth straight fight in a row when he knocked out Daukaus on the main card of UFC Vegas 78 this past weekend. The win cements Rountree as a top-15 fighter in the UFC light heavyweight division, and given that he’s finished three of his last four wins, he figures to get a top-10 opponent in his next fight. If that’s the case, then Rountree is hoping that he gets a five-round main event fight for it.

Speaking to the media following UFC Vegas 78, Rountree explained that he wants to get a title shot at 205 lbs, but he believes he needs to fight a five-round bout before he gets the chance to fight for the belt.

“The reason why I want to fight five rounds is because I want to be ready for a championship fight as soon as possible. I’m ready for a title, but I have to fight five rounds before I can fully say that,” Rountree said (via MMAjunkie.com). “I’ve never fought a main event before. Where my mind is and where I’m going, I’m here to fight the best. I’m here to go after it and be a contender. So whoever makes sense in a five-round main event to help either of us get toward that belt, then that’s who it is. I’m not picking and closing opponents.”

Looking at the UFC light heavyweight division, many of the top-10 ranked fighters have already been booked for fights, but perhaps Rountree will fight the winner of one of these fights coming up, such as the rematch between Ryan Spann and Anthony Smith at UFC Singapore later this month.

Do you agree with Khalil Routree should get a UFC main event fight next, and who do you think he should fight against?
