ROC President Stanislav Pozdnyakov Bullish On Sambo to the Olympics
President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Stanislav Pozdnyakov, is optimistic about seeing the sport of Sambo a part of the Olympic programme in the future. In an interview with TASS, he believes that the recognition of Sambo by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is only the first step and plans to continue to work towards Olympic inclusion for Sambo on the official programme.
Stanislav Pozdnyakov and the ROC
Stanislav Pozdnyakov knows the task at hand and that inclusion of Sambo in the Olympics will be no easy task. But what he does know is that the ROC team and the International Sambo Federation (FIAS) are a dream team and the people that are working to this goal are the best team to do so.
“I would like it to be presented in the Olympic programme, but this is not an easy task.” Stanislav Pozdnyakov continues, “Nevertheless, the level of work of the International SAMBO Federation inspires optimism.”
Pozdnyakov remains optimistic, but he understands that such a tough task will take time. He says, “In the medium term, this sport may appear at the Olympics. You need to go a certain way, the road will be mastered by the walking.”
Meanwhile, FIAS President Vasily Shestakov is keeping his nose down, growing the sport. FIAS has added four World Sambo Cup events in 2022 to be held in the Dominican Republic, Morocco, Kyrgyzstan, and Serbia.
Both Stanislav Pozdnyakov and Vasily Shestakov are instrumental in growing the sport of Sambo and getting it into the Olympics. While there is a lot of work to be done, the two, along with their teams behind them, are working hard to add another combat sport to the Olympic programme.
