Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin III set for September

The Trilogy is official: Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin III set for September

After lots of speculation and anticipation from boxing fans around the world, the trilogy between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin is finally set.

The first bout between the two came in 2017. After 12 hard-fought rounds, the bout was declared a draw and left fans eager to see the rematch. Almost exactly one year later, the two-faced off once again, this time with a winner. That winner was Alvarez, who won the bout via majority decision.

With the closeness of the two bouts, fans have been anticipating the trilogy ever since, and three years later we will finally get it.

Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) is the unified super middleweight champion and the WBC franchise middleweight champion. Since his last bout with Golovkin, he has gone 7-1, defeating the likes of Sergey Kovalev, Billy Joe Saunders, and Caleb Plant. His sole defeat in that time came just a few weeks ago when he went up to 175 lbs to take on Dmitry Bivol.

Now looking to rebound at his primary weight class, Alvarez will take on 40-year-old Golovkin for the third time.

Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) is the current IBF and WBA middleweight champion. Since his last meeting with Alvarez, he has gone 4-0 with victories over Steve Rolls, Sergiy Derevyanchenko, and Kamil Szeremeta. Back in April, he defeated Ryota Murata by way of a 9th-round TKO.

With his sole loss coming at the hands of Alvarez, Golovkin will look to get that one back come September.

The bout is to take place on September 17th and will be broadcasted on DAZN PPV. The location and venue are yet to be determined.
