Tim Elliott handily out-wrestles Victor Altamirano at UFC on ESPN 46

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to us tonight, June 3, 2023, for UFC on ESPN 46, going down live from the UFC Apex in Enterprise, Nevada.

Headlining the event is a highly anticipated flyweight encounter between no. 3 ranked Kai Kara-France (24-10, 1 NC) and no. 7 ranked Amir Albazi (16-1).

Co-headlining the event is a featherweight bout between Alex Caceres (20-13, 1 NC) and Daniel Pineda (28-14, 3 NC).

Our third bout going down on the main card tonight came in the flyweight division between Tim Elliott (19-12-1) and Victor Altamirano (12-3).

Elliott, following return to the big show as the Titan FC flyweight champion and TUF 24 winner, would go 2-5 over his next seven contests. He’s since gone 3-1, though many believed he should have won his last four-straight.

Altamirano on the other hand had gone 2-1 since joining the UFC roster, first losing a split decision in his promotional debut, before going into this bout on a two-fight win streak.

Official Result: Tim Elliott def. Victor Altamirano via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Altamirano opens up the bout with a series of head kicks, the third of which Elliott catches ten seconds in, putting him on his back early. Elliott remains in his guard throughout the rest of the opening round.

Elliott gains top position early on in the second, holding it for the first two minutes of the round.

Once Altamirano works his way back up, he takes Elliott down and remains on top for a about one minute, before he ends the round on his back over the final 90 or so seconds of it.

Elliott also spends the majority of round three in top position; it wasn’t the most eventful fight, but Elliott shows off his wrestling and improves to 4-1 over his latest five appearances at UFC on ESPN 46, nonetheless.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was scrolling through the channels and landed upon Versus, where WEC was televised. Urijah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. That's the first fight I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. So eventually, I began covering the sport in the fourth quarter of 2018, and have since started writing about animals as well.
