Bobby Green

What Could Be Next for Bobby Green?

This past Saturday, Bobby Green put on a dominant performance in his bout against Nasrat Haqparast, part of the UFC 271 pay-per-view event. With all three judges scoring the bout 30-27 in favor of Green, he is now on a two-fight winning streak.

Just a couple of months ago, Green finished former title challenger Al Iaquinta in the first round. Now, with a win over a very solid fighter in Haqparast, Green may be looking to break into the top 15 of the lightweight division.

As he approaches 36 years of age, we may be looking at a final title run for the “King.” During the fight with Haqparast, Jon Anik stated on the broadcast that if Green is not careful, he may just find himself entering the rankings, and I agree. I think with Green’s age and his two recent outstanding performances the UFC needs to book him in a main event slot against a top 15 lightweight.

Green not only has the skills to compete in the top 15 and the fighting style to go five rounds, but he has some serious star potential too. I would love to see him have a chance to break into the top 15 against someone like Brad Riddell. With Riddell coming off of a loss to Rafael Fiziev and Green hoping to be booked in a fight that is exciting and one that will get the crowd going, this seems like a perfect fit.

Clearly, Green has proved that he can hang right there with some of the best in the division, and a veteran like himself definitely needs to be booked in a fight that not only is a five-round main event but one that provides an opportunity to enter the UFC lightweight rankings.

Additionally, I feel that Green is extremely underrated. Typically fighting on the prelims or early main card, Green is not getting the media coverage and the eyes that he really should be getting. His personality and style can really make him a star. Booking him in a top 15 lightweight main event would surely boost his popularity and pay.

For someone who has been in the game for so long and been a real company man, he well deserves a main event slot, a bigger check, and an opportunity to break into the top 15.
