Lyman Good off UFC 205 fight card, UFC issues statement

Lyman Good Looking to Donate Blood Anti-bodies to Help Fight Against COVID-19

Monday, UFC welterweight Lyman Good told ESPN that the reason he had pulled out of UFC 249 was due to contracting COVID-19. Good, who fights out of New York was due to fight at UFC 249’s original venue at Barclays in Brooklyn. It was originally reported that he was removed due to injury but Good revealed that was not the case.

Since the news broke about him contracting COVID-19, Good wants to make it known that he is recovered and back in training. It seems a lot of news was made of him contracting it, but in order to give people hope, Good believes it is more important for people to know that he recovered from it. “ A lot of the news is focusing on me catching it, but the more important thing is that I beat it,” Good told TMZ on Thursday.

Most news regarding the coronavirus/COVID-19 has been about increased cases and deaths. Good, after recovering is looking to try to give some hope to fans by opening up about getting the virus and recovering from it. “There’s a lot of unknowns out there,” Good said and added, “I figured, going public with this, was a positive way to send a message to everybody to let people know, ‘Hey, I got it, but I beat it.’”

Good said he had symptoms for around a week and that he started to improve. He also said he is in contact with the Red Cross, “So that I can give blood donations, anti-bodies to help other people.” Lyman Good knows that his recovery from the virus is not the case for everyone that gets it so if giving his blood helps other people, he’s ready to do it.

As far as a return to competition goes, he says he was tested and is now negative so he is already back to training. While he is feeling better, he made sure for the safety of his coaches and teammates he does not go back and “spread this thing.”
