Maycee Barber gunning for Alexa Grasso rematch following Amanda Ribas win at UFC Jacksonville

UFC women’s flyweight contender Maycee Barber is gunning for an Alexa Grasso rematch following her Amanda Ribas win at UFC Jacksonville.

Barber entered the Ribas fight as the underdog, but she dominated the match and finished her opponent via second-round TKO after raining down elbows from the top position. The win over Ribas gives Barber five straight victories inside the Octagon and an overall UFC record of 8-2.

By defeating Ribas, Barber will now be ranked in the top 10 at women’s 125lbs, and she will move one step closer to a title shot, the belt of which is currently held by Grasso. In September, Grasso defends her belt for the first time when she rematches former champ, Valentina Shevchenko. For Barber, she is hoping that the champ retains her belt and she is hoping she gets another crack at her. But even if Grasso ends up losing her belt, Barber is still very much interested in a rematch with Grasso.

Speaking to the media following UFC Jacksonville, Barber laid out her next steps in her MMA career.

“I’ve been saying it time and time again: Whether Alexa wins against Valentina again or not, I do want that rematch. So, we’ll see. That would be ideal. We’ll see. I’m going to go back and talk to Hunter (Campbell) and Mick (Maynard) and the team, then we’ll figure it out,” Barber said (via MMAjunkie.com).

As far as the win over Ribas goes, Barber knows it was huge for her future title aspirations in the women’s flyweight division, particularly because she finished the fight.

“It means everything. Every time I step out of the cage I’m going out for a finish. The competition is getting tougher, but at the same time I really needed to step it up and get in that zone again and get myself in that position where I’m like, ‘There’s no way out of this except for me finishing this girl,” Barber said.

Do you want to see a rematch between Maycee Barber and Alexa Grasso, and who do you think would win the fight?
