Mehdi Barghi, ONE on TNT 1

ONE on TNT 1 Media Day quotes (Mehdi Barghi)

ONE Championship athletes Eddie Alvarez, Mehdi Barghi, and Tyler McGuire spoke to the media ahead of the much-ballyhooed event, ONE on TNT 1. It emanates from the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Wednesday, April 7th.

The main card goes live on TNT at 10 p.m. eastern time. In addition, the main card will be available live on Bleacher Report and the B/R app at 10 p.m eastern time. You can catch the prelims on B/R App, B/R Live, Bleacher Report, B/R Live YouTube, and B/R MMA Twitter at 8:30 p.m. eastern time.

Below are excerpts from my Q&A with Mehdi Barghi.

ONE on TNT 1

My question is related to the enthusiasm surrounding Oumar Kane. A lot of buzz around him, undefeated prospect at this point, and also the backdrop of this being ONE’s first show on TNT.

What does Mehdi think a win here over Oumar Kane does for his MMA career?

“Mehdi believes that Oumar has good wrestling. But he’s prepared extensively for him. He believes he will go in there and win the fight. He’s not looking past him. He’s focused on this fight. Believes if he does win, it’ll just be another win. But he believes he will have what it takes to win that fight and he will come out victorious.”

My question was related to just the seemingly perpetual growth of the weight division I mean some of the names like Brandon Vera and Arjan Bhullar have already been mentioned and for good reason. But you also have names coming forward like Buchecha, Gordon Ryan, Dustin Joynson.

I’m kind of wondering what Mehdi’s thoughts are on being part of a division that just keeps galvanizing and getting stronger seemingly by the week?

“Mehdi believes ONE has done a phenomenal job stacking the heavyweight division. He thinks ONE’s heavyweight division is one of the most competitive divisions of any promotion. And he’s excited to be a part of this division. He’s excited to grow.”
