Steve Garcia Jr. – “These are the cards I’m dealt and I’m going to play them best I can”
Recently married and coming off a pair of incredible victories, Steve Garcia couldn’t be more motivated to earn a UFC contract.
On the August 20th edition of Dana White’s Contender Series, Garcia will face Desmond Torres, instead of Alberto Montes, who was the opponent when we conducted the interview.
You have your opportunity coming up on the Contender Series. How excited are you?
“I’m excited, but I’mdetermined more than anything, but excited is a good way to explain it. It’s been about 12 years in the making so I’ve been waiting 12 years to get to this point. I’m definitely gonna take full of advantage of it and go from there. Hopefully get a contract, you know, make waves in the UFC, that would be great.”
Why is this the right time?
“I don’t know if it’s the right time. There’s never really a right time. You know, everybody’s like ‘it’s the right time.’ It happens when it’s presented to you. You just have to jump on it. The opportunity presents itself. I’m gonna take it and give it everything I have.”
For where you are as a martial artist, does it feel like the right timing?
“I’d hope so. But as a mixed martial artist, I have that mindset that I’m ready at anytime. So, it doesn’t really matter. Could have happened two years ago, a year from now. I’m just happy it’s sooner then later and it’s right now. So, these are the cards I’m dealt and I’m going to play them best I can.”
