Wanderlei Silva withdraws from Rizin FF fight, CroCop calls him “Chicken”
Pride Fighting and UFC Veterans Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic and Wanderlei Silva were set to compete against one another again on December 29 at Rizin FF 3 in Japan.
Silva has since withdrew from the open-weight grand prix quarterfinal without explanation (at least not from him or from Rizin Fighting Federation).
The two men have met twice before. The first time was at PRIDE FC 20 in 2002 where the contest was ruled a draw and then once again at PRIDE FC Final Conflict Absolute where Cro Cop knocked Silva out with a head kick in 2006.
Cro Cop took to social media to state that he found out that Silva withdrew from the contest.
Update: The Facebook post has since been deleted.
The 14-man, 16-slot tournament (Silva and Shane Carwin received first-round byes) kicked off on September 25 at Rizin FF 2. No replacement for Silva has been announced.
