WrestleMania 36 to take place without fans, WWE issues statement

Add the biggest annual event in professional wrestling to join the long list of activities forced to change plans due to the coronavirus pandemic that is sweeping the globe. WWE’s WrestleMania 36 event, scheduled to take place Sunday, April 5 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida will not go on as originally planned.

Florida Govenor Ron DeSantis had suggested cities cancel large-scale events and gatherings for at least 30 days due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Instead of hosting the extravaganza in the large outdoor setting, the WWE will throw the event in the absence of fans. The promotion announced that the WrestleMania 36 will be moved to the WWE Performance Center training facility in Orlando.

The WWE has issued a statement via their website:

“In coordination with local partners and government officials, WrestleMania and all related events in Tampa Bay will not take place. However, WrestleMania will still stream live on Sunday, April 5 at 7 pm ET on WWE Network and be available on pay-per-view. Only essential personnel will be on the closed set at WWE’s training facility in Orlando, Florida to produce WrestleMania.”

Raymond James Stadium, which is home to the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the XFL’s Tampa Bay Vipers, seats 65,618, but with the addition of temporary seating, it can be expanded to 75,000.
